Piston Powered NBA Rookie of the Year Rankings: November
As we complete the first month of the season, the NBA Rookie of the Year race looks like it will be one of the more wide open competitions of the regular season awards.
In my opinion, there have been three real standouts over the first four weeks while several other rookies have performed well in the time they have seen the court.
The hype that surrounded Stanley Johnson has died down significantly. He hasn’t been bad but certainly hasn’t started the regular season in the sort of form he showed during preseason.
He has defended well coming off the bench for the Detroit Pistons but has not been able to hit his shots putting together an eight Points, three rebounds per game start on 38% from the field, 21% from the three point line and 68% from the free throw line.
I look for all three of those efficiency numbers to improve quite dramatically as the season continues. I do wonder however, what sort of consequence there is statistically when spending a majority of his minutes playing amongst one of the worst bench units in the NBA.
The following slides give you a look at the Top 5 Rookie performers over the first month.
