2. Dave Bing (1966, first round, first overall)

Career stats: 20.3 points, 6.0 assists, 3.8 rebounds, 1.3 steals (9 seasons with Pistons)

Dave Bing was one of the few true superstars to ever play for the Pistons’ organization.

During his time with the Pistons he won rookie of the year, was the NBA scoring champion, two time all-NBA first-team honors, finishing third and fourth in MVP voting in both of those seasons, and he played in six all-star games winning the all-star MVP once.

Bing was finished in the top 10 in scoring twice in his career, once in the top five in 1970-1971. He also finished in the top 10 in assists five times, one of which he finished second in assists in the 1974-1975 season.

If you are a Pistons fan around my age, Bing was one of those players you always heard about, but never actually got to see play. If that’s the case, enjoy the video above. He’s smooth, and his creative passing was unheard of at the time he played.

Bing would finish his 12-year career 18,327 points, 5,397 assists, and 483 steals. Keep in mind, there was no three-point line in his career, and steals didn’t officially become a statistic until the 1973-1974 season. He averaged 1.3 steals per game when the stat was finally recognized, which was towards the end of his career.

For as smooth of a shooting stroke as he’s given credit for, there’s no telling how high is points per game average would have reached.
