Top 10 Detroit Pistons draft picks of all-time
7. Tayshaun Prince (2002, first round, 23rd overall)
Career stats: 11.8 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, .6 steals, .5 blocks (11 total seasons with Pistons)
Prince was never “the guy” for the Pistons, but he was a major part of one of the most magical Pistons teams in franchise history. During Prince’s tenure with the Pistons, the team made it to six consecutive Eastern Conference Finals, and won a championship as heavy underdogs against Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant’s Los Angeles Lakers in the 2003-2004 season.
But before the Pistons could win the title and go on to make six straight trips to the Eastern Conference Finals, the Pistons had to get past the Indiana Pacers. With just seconds left, Pacers’ star Reggie Miller had a wide-open fast break opportunity to tie the game and send it into overtime. Instead of the game going to overtime, Prince made the greatest block in NBA playoff history.
It was also one of the most iconic moments in franchise history.
Sadly, Prince’s time with the Pistons wasn’t all joy. The two parted ways on two separate occasions, and Prince’s feelings towards the organization near the end were harsh to say the least.
