Consistency has been an issue for Kristaps Porzingis throughout December. After such a strong start that had pundits from New York to New Delhi praising his performances, he seems to have hit the proverbial “Rookie Wall”.

Through the first four games of the month Porzingis averaged 19 points, 7.3 Rebounds and blocked 2 shots a game while shooting 61% from the field, 63% from 3 and didn’t miss a single free throw in 9 attempts. It was looking as if the Latvian was well on his way to securing Rookie of the Year.

Porzingis then finished the month averaging 10 Points, 6 Rebounds, 2 blocks shooting just 33% from the field, 26% from 3 and maintaining an impressive 90% rate at the free throw line. Those numbers aren’t that bad, efficiency aside, for a first year player in a new country, but in comparison to his early success, there has been a considerable drop off.

Still a clear second in the race for Rookie of the Year honours but will need to improve his efficiency if he wants to have a realistic chance to beat out the current number one ranked rookie in the league.
