Projecting the Detroit Pistons’ NBA 2K17 player ratings
By Duncan Smith
The Holdovers
The Pistons have had a great deal of turnover on the bench this offseason, so we’ll first go over the players who are returning from last season, and then we’ll go over the new guys.
Reggie Bullock
Opening 2K16 Rating: 67
Closing 2K16 Rating: 72
Net Rating Change: +5
Projected 2K17 Rating: 73
Nobody really knew much about Reggie Bullock going into last season. He seemed like a shooter, but that’s about it. He didn’t get much run over the two-thirds of the season, but filled in admirably when Stanley Johnson went down with an injury on February 22nd. Over the course of the rest of the regular season, he scored just 6.4 points per game but hit 53.2 percent of his field goal attempts and 48.8 percent of his three-pointers.
Turns out he’s a shooter.
With some more run, he should see his production increase and his 2K17 rating should follow. It wouldn’t be a big surprise to see his rating move up over the course of the season.
Darrun Hilliard
Opening 2K16 Rating: 68
Closing 2K16 Rating: 67
Net Rating Change: -1
Projected 2K17 Rating: 67
We haven’t learned much about Darrun Hilliard thus far, and it’s hard to see his 2K rating move much going into 2016-17. He didn’t play a lot, averaging 10.1 minutes in 38 games, scoring 4 points per outing and putting up shooting splits of .397/.380/.725.
In a suddenly crowded backcourt, Hilliard may find himself on the outside looking in. He may spend some time with the Pistons’ NBA D-League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Drive.
Aron Baynes
Opening 2K16 Rating: 72
Closing 2K16 Rating: 73
Net Rating Change: +1
Projected 2K17 Rating: 72
Aron Baynes‘ rating didn’t move much last season in spite of overachieving somewhat relative to the three-year $18 million contract that he signed in the 2014-15 offseason to come to Detroit. When you watch Baynes play, it’s hard not to think he looks like about a 72 on NBA 2K.
He looks like a 72 on 2K.
Lorenzo Brown
Opening 2K16 Rating: 67
Closing 2K16 Rating: 67
Net Rating Change: NC
Projected 2K17 Rating: 67
Lorenzo Brown ended the season with the Pistons, so in spite of not actually seeing the floor with the team he’s a returning player. He has one of the lowest ratings of any player on an actual NBA roster with only Tyus Jones of the Minnesota Timberwolves and Jorge Gutierrez rating lower at 66 and 65 overall respectively.
With the signing of Ray McCallum, Brown may be hard-pressed to make the Pistons’ roster going into the regular season.
