SI grades the Detroit Pistons and the rest of the Central Division
By Duncan Smith
"SI approved strongly of the way the Pistons constructed their new-and-improved bench. The Pistons had one of the most productive starting units in the NBA but had countless leads squandered by an inept bench. As a result, the organization prioritized addressing weaknesses at the reserve power forward and point guard positions with signings of Jon Leuer and Ish Smith."
Drummond and Johnson highlight Pistons who can make big jump according to SVG
"Detroit Pistons’ head coach Stan Van Gundy has a reputation from shooting from the hip. He tells it how it is regardless of what you or anyone else might think. So when he says that Andre Drummond and Stanley Johnson have the best chance of making the biggest leap in play this season, he means it."
Stanley Johnson is a (Drew League) champion
By Duncan Smith
"While working with USA Basketball and playing in the summer league, Johnson still found time to play in the Drew League in Los Angeles. His early summer Drew action with ICEO didn’t go well in the standings, in spite of a 46 point scoring outburst.Things changed in his late summer run at the Drew as his BB4L squad (led by Baron Davis) took down the Drew League championship thanks to a 103-76 blowout of JaVale McGee’s #Juglife."
Stan Van Gundy wants the Pistons to report to camp in shape
By Duncan Smith
"Stan Van Gundy isn’t going to tolerate players from the Detroit Pistons playing their way into shape during training camp when it gets started at the end of September. Instead, he wants everybody on the team showing up for camp already in shape."
