A season to forget for the Detroit Pistons took a turn for the worse early Wednesday morning as Kentavious Caldwell-Pope was arrested in Auburn Hills, Michigan, on suspicion of DUI.

A bad season got worse, and a bad night got worse for the Detroit Pistons in the early hours of Wednesday morning as third-year guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope was arrested in Auburn Hills, Michigan, on suspicion of DUI.

Per a report from Detroit’s Local 4 News NBC affiliate, Caldwell-Pope was pulled over going 45 m.p.h. in a 25 zone.

"Police said Caldwell-Pope was pulled over around 2:50 a.m. Wednesday on Auburn Road near Squirrel Road after being clocked driving 45 mph in a 25 mph zone. The advanced roadside impairment officer said when he walked up to the car, he smelled alcohol. He put Caldwell-Pope through sobriety tests and placed him under arrest, police said.Caldwell-Pope was “very cooperative” with the officer, authorities said. He was issued a ticket for DUI after a Breathalyzer test at the police station registered his blood-alcohol content at 0.08."

It’s been a troubled season for the Pistons on the whole, but this has been Caldwell-Pope’s best season thus far, even allowing for a significant slump over the past 30 games. He’s set to receive a huge pay bump this coming summer as he’s set to become a restricted free agent just as the NBA’s salary cap is due to hit a record high.

This incident occurred just hours after the Pistons lost a 97-96 heartbreaker to the Miami Heat on a Hassan Whiteside buzzer-beating put-back, all but ending the competitive portion of their season.

Caldwell-Pope expects to command offers in the range of $20 million annually or more, but it remains to be seen if this will be cause for concern for the Pistons or other teams, possibly lowering his price.
