Can the Detroit Pistons fleece the Orlando Magic for their first rounder? What sort of trades can we expect now that Stan Van Gundy knows of the Magic’s interest? In short, Van Gundy says the Magic’s offseason leak has been way overblown.

I’m sure there were some Detroit Pistons’ fans out there that were immediately filled with joy when they saw the photo accidentally showing some offseason Intel regarding the Magic’s plans.

I suspect it went something like this: “The Magic were interested in Reggie Jackson, maybe we can send him and Jon Leuer for their first round pick?” Or, “Hey, it’s the Magic, can’t wait to see how we can rake them over the coals this time!”

As odd as the Magic’s strategic vision has been, and as unbelievably insane it is that some of their internal discussions have been leaked, Stan Van Gundy says there is really nothing to glean from the leak.

Via Detroit Free Press:

"“I don’t know that it has any relevance,” Van Gundy said today. “There’s no big secret there. He’s got the names of good hybrid forwards on the board. Well, we all like those guys. It not like he’s got a secret list. Like, ‘Oh, you like that guy. I would have never thought of that.’ There were no surprises there, it was simply a working board. … I don’t know if there’s any NBA general manager, president or anything who can take a look at that list and do anything with it or gain any advantage by it.”"

Van Gundy’s probably right, though this should serve as a good conversation facilitator, at the very least, in terms of gauging the trade market.

The Pistons, at the very least, will be looking to move some of their ancillary players. For a top six pick that the Magic will likely land, it is safe to say that they would be willing to give up more.

The Magic’s front office seems to take the team into a new direction each season. This has resulted in some pretty lopsided deals.

Perhaps the Pistons can strike another lopsided deal. Or, perhaps there’s nothing there. We won’t know what the case ends up being until we get to the offseason.

Next: Did the Magic leak their offseason plans?

That said, the Pistons have an unfiltered opinion on a few of their players thanks to the leak. That is a favorable position to be in when it comes to trade negotiations.
