However, a spirited second-half fightback saw the Pistons chip away at the lead and eventually get in front before falling away down the stretch.
Ish Smith was the leader of the comeback, pushing the pace up the floor and blowing by the defense multiple times.
Reggie Bullock‘s shooting off the bench was also critical, as was Boban Marjanovic‘s work on the offensive glass late in the fourth, which resulted in back-to-back and-ones for the big man.
Unfortunately, these performances went unrewarded as the Pistons were unable to shut down Aaron Gordon (32 points, 12 rebounds, 2 blocks) and Elfrid Payton (21 points, 5 rebounds, 13 assists).
The Pistons’ defence was non-existent as the Magic finished the game with 48 percent shooting from the field, 52 percent from the three-point line and topped it off by going 94 percent from the free-throw line.
This huge performance came just days after the Magic suffered their biggest loss in franchise history.
