The Detroit Free Press’s Vincent Ellis reported the news Friday that North Carolina’s Justin Jackson would be working out for the Detroit Pistons next week.

The publication was told about the team’s intentions by Tandem Sports and Entertainment, who represents the 22-year-old.

Justin Jackson, who is DraftExpress’s top junior on the board as of its most recent mock drafts, is coming off a season where he averaged 18.4 points and 4.7 rebounds per game with the Tar Heels. The Houston native is also coming into this year’s draft as a well-regarded shooter, having recorded a 56 percent true shooting percentage and breaking a team record in three-pointers made in a season with 105.

His play helped Jackson earn consensus first-team All-American honors as well as being named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Player of the Year.

Both The Crossover’s Jeremy Woo and Bleacher Report projected the Pistons would select the six-foot-eight forward after the NBA Draft Lottery last month.

Jackson participated in a pre-draft workout with the Sacramento Kings, who own the 10th pick, on May 31. He will also be meeting with the New York Knicks on June 13, according to Tar Heel Blog. The Dallas Mavericks and Denver Nuggets also have reported interest in the small forward.

The Pistons held workouts with Florida State center Michael Ojo, Middle Tennessee State forward Reggie Upshaw, Weber State guard Jeremy Senglin, Loyola-Chicago guard Milton Doyle, UCLA center Ike Anigbogu and Central Florida guard Matt Williams on May 23.

The Pistons will be working out Jackson Tuesday.
