The Pistons shooting guard becomes a restricted free agent this offseason. He will now be subject to the NBA’s substance abuse policy after its own investigation of the case concludes. The Pistons will compete for KCP’s next contract regardless of the outcome of this case or the NBA’s pending action on it.

This case began March 29 when Auburn Hills police stopped KCP’s vehicle under suspicion of drunk driving at 2:52 a.m. according to the Free Press. Pope reportedly recorded a blood alcohol level of 0.08 once taken back to the police station at 4:06 a.m.; just above the legal limit in Michigan.

The average punishment for these cases tend is usually a suspension one or two games, and perhaps a hefty fine.
