The Detroit Pistons have been looking for a high upside, star caliber player. They might be landing one in the form of D’Angelo Russell, according to Chad Ford.

We have spent the entire offseason talking about ways the Detroit Pistons could land a star caliber, or potentially star caliber player.

Days before the draft, the Pistons chances have taken a turn for the best, in the form of D’Angelo Russell, who is being rumored to be available for a top-12 pick.

It is interesting to note “top 12”. On the one hand, the tweet could  be referencing the likely availability of Kennard and Collins who will be going in that range.

On the other hand, 12 is where the Pistons are selecting, and this tweet could point to the Pistons being one of the two teams involved.

It’s no secret the Pistons want to land a star caliber player. It’s also no secret they have serious questions regarding their long-term status at point guard, and that the team desires to win now.

All signs point to this being a deal that would greatly interest the Pistons.

For me, I absolutely love the deal. I think very highly of Russell–even if he has been a bit disappointing thus far–and think he would be a terrific fit in Stan Van Gundy’s point guard driven offense.

Assuming the Pistons are involved–which is speculatory–I would love to see this deal come to fruition. It would be even better if it could be finished before draft night, to give the Pistons another opportunity to jump back into the NBA draft.

Next: Is Zach Collins the next KAT?

As a Collins fanatic, losing out on the chance to draft him is a tough pill to swallow, because I think he offers so much potential too. However, Russell is a young and proven point guard with excellent court vision, and a player that could be a real difference-maker for the Pistons.

What do you think Pistons fans?
