Detroit Pistons: who are you looking forward to watching most in Orlando?
The Detroit Pistons start their Summer League play today in Orlando. For some, this is the highlight of the offseason. With that said, who are you most looking forward to seeing on the Pistons’ summer league squad?
The Detroit Pistons have announced their summer league roster, which will feature 2016 first round pick Henry Ellenson, 2016 second round pick Michael Gbinije, and 2017 first round pick Luke Kennard.
Here’s a look at the full summer league roster:
Now that you have the full choice of selections, who are you most excited to see perform on the squad?
For me, it’s easy–Henry Ellenson.
Ellenson was a top-10 prospect that fell to the Pistons last year as the 18th overall selection–in part due to bad drafting, but also because a fear of his lack of explosiveness and foot speed.
However, Ellenson says he has added strength, speed, and athleticism and can’t wait to show how he’s improved.
What Ellenson does better than most seven footers is shoot and drive. He is also a really good rebounder, but the questions regarding his foot speed and athleticism–and really his lack of strength too–were all valid.
Ellenson’s skinny frame from a season ago, paired with his age (19), leads me to believe that he can add some serious gains to his speed, frame, and athleticism, enough to mask his natural athleticism, which is below NBA standards.
That’s why I am so excited to see him, because it’s obvious how much more he can develop. If Ellenson has added to his frame, and refined his shot a bit, I think he can be an excellent NBA player and a strong rotation player next season for the Pistons–and who knows, maybe even starter.
