LOS ANGELES, CA – MARCH 29: JJ Redick /

J.J. Redick

Strengths:
Dangerous shooter, textbook mechanics, off-ball offensive movement including using screens, good mid-range game and series of fakes, gets to the free throw line (almost eight free throw attempts per game), capable passer and unselfish, clutch moments, 18+ points in all but 2 games,

Weaknesses:
Size, short arms, doesn’t have the elite athleticism to compensate for those, average foot speed, can’t create his own shot, average defender in NCAA which will only get worse in the NBA, doesn’t have the bulk if posted up.

Scouting:

Redick is one of the most complete offensive college players. In three consecutive seasons he hit the most three-pointers in the ACC, to add to that he had the same feat with free throw percentage. He made 457 three-point shots in his college career at 40.6 percent. Aside from his obvious talent in getting the ball in the hoop, he’s also worked on his conditioning to be able to run people off screens in the vein of Reggie Miller and Richard Hamilton. He also possesses an excellent mid-range game with a good repertoire of fakes to choose from. He finished his college career with a free-throw percentage of 91.2, and is capable and willing passer.

He is let down by his size and athletic ability. His wingspan doesn’t make up for his athletic ability and he may struggle defensively. Aside from that he struggles to create his own shot, and therefore will be reliant on teammates and coaches to draw up plays for him.
