The Detroit Pistons were looking to get some veteran depth at the forward spot and do that by signing former Piston Anthony Tolliver.
The 32-year-old veteran Anthony Tolliver agreed to a one-year $3.3 million contract to help add depth for the Detroit Pistons at the forward spot. The Pistons were also in need of a veteran presence last season after a very disappointing season.
Tolliver, who played just over one and half seasons with Detroit, played with the Sacramento Kings last season. He played in 65 games with Kings and averaged 7.1 points per game and shot 39.1 percent from long range. That mark would have been the Pistons’ best three-point shooter.
Tolliver also brings grit and toughness on defense which showed in the 2015-16 when the Pistons made it back to the playoffs. In that season he averaged 5.3 points and shot 36 percent from the three-point line.
He is an excellent addition to the Pistons as they lacked in depth at the power forward spot. He’s a great veteran leader which the Pistons also were in lack of last season. This showed when the young roster wasn’t able to overcome late-season adversity in 2017-18.
Tolliver will be battling with Henry Ellenson for reserve unit minutes mostly due to the trade with the Boston Celtics where the Pistons sent forward Marcus Morris to the Celtics for shooting guard Avery Bradley and a second round pick in 2020.
Next: Stanley Johnson is the small forward of the future
All in all, the Pistons have excellent depth now, and with the addition of Tolliver, he was their cherry on top as he filled needs for the Pistons which lacked this past season.
