The Detroit Pistons have made another training camp addition in the form of free agent guard Dwight Buycks, signed to a contract on Tuesday.

The Detroit Pistons took another step towards rounding out their training camp roster on Tuesday, signing 6’3″ 190 lbs free agent combo guard Dwight Buycks to a contract.

According to a tweet from Michael Scotto of Basketball Insiders:

The 28-year-old Buycks has 20 games of NBA experience, in 2013-14 with the Toronto Raptors and 2014-15 with the Los Angeles Lakers. Buycks went to Marquette where he played in 68 games, averaging 7.7 points and 2.8 assists per contest.

He’s played parts of four seasons in the NBA D-League (now the G-League). He averaged 16.7 points per game in 61 appearances, starting 27 games.

Most of his play the last three seasons has been in China where he’s been an everyday starter. Last season with Fuijan he averaged 25.7 points per game while playing 39.7 minutes per appearance, and the season before he averaged 25.1 points per game with Fuijan.

Most recently he appeared in all five of the Dallas Mavericks’ Orlando Summer League games, starting all of them. He averaged 17.8 points per game in summer league and apparently made an impression on Stan Van Gundy and the Pistons’ coaching staff, considering this agreement of an undisclosed nature.

Buycks will be useful in practices and workouts as well as potentially providing minutes off the bench during the preseason. While we may hear otherwise in the next few weeks, it’s unlikely that he’s in the running for the Detroit Pistons’ second two-way contract.
