The Detroit Pistons avoided blockbuster moves. However they were able to capitalize on other teams involved in those moves. Let’s recap what they did.

The Detroit Pistons had a relatively quiet offseason, not getting involved in any of the blockbuster moves. However what they did do is capitalize on other teams that were involved in those big moves. The Pistons did make some moves, and did get better and improve their squad. Let’s recap the moves that they did make.

Players In:

Players Out:

  • Aron Baynes – Declined his player option and eventually signed with the Boston Celtics
  • Darrun Hilliard – Traded to the Houston Rockets for Cash Considerations. He was eventually waived and recently signed a Two-Way contract with the San Antonio Spurs
  • Michael Gbinije – Waived. Recently signed with the Golden State Warriors
  • Marcus Morris – Traded to the Boston Celtics in exchange for Bradley and a second round pick
  • Kentavious Caldwell-Pope – Renounced his rights. Signed with the Los Angeles Lakers to a 1 year, $18 million contract

The Detroit Pistons quietly became a better team. Arguably their biggest improvement was their bench. Avery Bradley will come in and easily become their best defender, and in my opinion is now their best player. Regardless of how the offseason played out (luck in escaping the hard caps wrath) if we look at the end result all Detroit Pistons fans should be happy. The team got better, more talented, and with continued internal development which we have  spoken about at length, then this team should do alright.
