The Detroit Pistons and partner Farm Bureau Insurance joined forces to renovate the library of J.E. Clark Preparatory Academy in Detroit.
In early August the Detroit Pistons and Farm Bureau Insurance joined forces to renovate the library at J.E. Clark on the east side of Detroit. A month and a half later, the project is complete and the fifth annual Reading Room Makeover winner’s library was unveiled in a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Thursday afternoon.
Once used as both office space and a classroom (at the same time), this room has been completely renovated with a Pistons’ theme and stocked with books. The before and after pictures are stark.
The books are organized in lockers dedicated to each player on the Pistons’ current roster, with the name of each player’s university listed below their names.
Take a look at the layout of the room in the video embedded below:
In addition, we got a first look at Pistons’ mascot Hooper wearing the new Nike (and Flagstar Bank) jerseys.
In attendance for the ceremony were former Piston and Community Ambassador Earl Cureton and Palace Sports and Entertainment executive vice president and chief revenue and marketing officer Charlie Metzger.
While taking in the features of the newly renovated library, he told me of its impact.
“The most inspiring thing is seeing the young kids in here and having a room like this where they can learn, with the players on the walls, it’s just awesome. As a basketball team, it’s about winning on the court, but it’s about winning off the court too. These are the kinds of things that inspire us to do more and more.”

The Reading Room Makeover is an annual outreach carried out in partnership between the Pistons and Farm Bureau Insurance. We’re looking forward to seeing who wins next year’s competition.
