DETROIT, MI - DECEMBER 08: Head coach Stan Van Gundy of the Detroit Pistons talks to Avery Bradley

After today’s practice, Stan Van Gundy announced that Detroit Pistons guard Avery Bradley would be out at least a week with a groin injury.

During today’s media session following the Detroit Pistons’ practice, Stan Van Gundy shed some light on the injuries currently plaguing the team. He announced that starting shooting guard, Avery Bradley, would be “shut down” for at least a week with a “pubic stress injury.”

In addition to being one of the best perimeter defenders in the league, Avery Bradley has been an integral part of the Pistons’ offense. He is often the beneficiary of the new dribble hand-off motion offense that Stan Van Gundy has instilled this season – often coming off of screens and nailing mid-range jumpers or cutting to the basket.

More from PistonPowered

Bradley has averaged 15.7 points per game, 2.4 rebounds per game, 2.0 assists per game, and 1.3 steals per game thus far this season. Somewhat of a renegade to the analytics community, Avery Bradley’s defensive metrics do not tell the entire story for how much of a defensive impact he has on the court.

In Bradley’s absence, expect to see more out of Reggie Bullock, who had somewhat of a coming-out party on Sunday against the Orlando Magic. Also, expect to continue to see Luke Kennard get the starting role over Langston Galloway. Not only has Kennard been efficient on the offensive end – averaging 5.3 points per game including 33 percent from beyond the arc.

Other notes:

  • Jon Leuer is still indefinite. He had some issues with the AlterG treadmill per Stan Van Gundy, so his timetable is still uncertain. I detailed his injury here.
  • Dwight Buycks and Luis Montero are both out with injuries as well. Buycks has been battling a hip injury since training camp. Montero would have suited up for the Pistons this week had he not been injured, according to Stan Van Gundy

The Detroit Pistons (17-13) travel to face the Dallas Mavericks (8-23) on the road on Wednesday. Tip-off is set for 8:30 PM EST.
