After months of speculation, Nike officially released their City Edition uniforms for 26 teams. The Detroit Pistons were amongst that group. As expected, the jersey celebrates the region’s rich automotive history. Here’s a look at the Pistons’ latest threads.

Better late than never, right?

Despite a video game spoiling the surprise two weeks ago, Nike officially unveiled the City Edition uniforms for 26 NBA teams Wednesday afternoon.

The announcement gives fans their first, true look at the Detroit Pistons’ fourth jersey.

Much like the previous alternate uniform, this latest edition is navy. “Motor City” will once again appear across the chest. But this time, the city’s nickname is in solid gray lettering.

In fact every design (aside from the Flagstar Bank patch) on the jersey follows that same pattern. So the uniform consists of only two colors.

The side paneling features thinly-sliced gray lines. Each of these streaks run at a different length, which provides a clean look from afar. Detroit’s seldom-used alternate logo (a ball passing through the letter “D”) can be seen on the front waist brand.

Something else to note is the size of the numbers. They appear much larger when placed alongside of Detroit’s three other jerseys. There is a side-by-side comparison on the Pistons’ website.

Listed below is Nike’s description of the Pistons’ City Edition uniform.

"The Detroit Pistons City Edition uniform features chrome details and sleek design lines that create a modern and clean look to these automotive-inspired jerseys and shorts. Motor City is prominently featured across the chest and a D logo on the waistband is a nod to the team’s move back to the city and represents the civic pride of the fan base."

The team also announced the four home games in which they’ll wear these City Edition jerseys. Fans won’t see them on the floor until Jan. 30 against Cleveland.

Love them or hate them, these threads won’t be around for very long. According to Nike, each team will receive a new City Edition jersey every year.

There is no word from the Pistons on when the jersey will be available for purchase. Fans who are interested may sign up for more information on the team’s website.
