By Ash Vanclay
It took the Detroit Pistons a minute and 40 seconds to score their first bucket against the New Orleans Pelicans – a Tobias Harris three-point field goal, off his signature hop from the wing.
The Detroit Pistons then allowed 17 fast break points against the now 20-19 New Orleans Pelicans in the first quarter, however somehow only trailed by 3 points at the first main break. To put that number into perspective coming into the game the Detroit Pistons averaged 6.9 opponent fast break points, for the game!
Heading into the main break the Detroit Pistons again found themselves down 3, after having a period in the second quarter where they had the lead. From that point on they only had the led again once for short time.
Detroit were close late but some poor defense down the stretch and some poor offensive execution couldn’t force overtime. The Pistons ended the game shooting 44.1 percent from the field and finished with 12 turnovers, while New Orleans finished shooting a scorching 56.1 percent from the field.
Dwight Buycks was also good off the bench in another impressive performance. He played 14 minutes and finished with 10 points, 1 rebound, and 1 assist. He competed hard defensively and ran the offense effectively.
