Detroit Pistons have had a way with injuries over entirety of the Stan Van Gundy era. Jon Leuer is the latest victim, as he has been ruled out for the remainder of the season due to ankle surgery.
The Detroit Pistons have really had a time with injuries during the Stan Van Gundy era.
Stan Van Gundy signed Jodie Meeks who never came to form under the Pistons due to back injuries. Then there was Brandon Jennings who tore his achilles, and never returned to the player he once was.
Then there was Reggie Jackson, who missed about half of the season last year, and now will miss about the same amount of time this year.
Now, we can add Jon Leuer to the list of players that has sustained a devastating injury.
"After suffering a sprained left ankle on Oct. 31, the condition worsened, as a later exam revealed bone fragments and other issues. Leuer has missed the last 35 games and has decided to have season-ending ankle surgery, he told The Detroit News on Friday.“It’s extremely frustrating. Disappointing, anger, all those emotions … we were trying to do whatever we could to avoid this,” Leuer told The News. “I knew even a month and a half ago when I saw the specialist that he kind of suggested (surgery) right away, but we wanted to see if we could try to manage the pain and hopefully get through the season."
Leuer, even when healthy, has been a big disappointment for the Pistons. The injury just adds insult.
As previously mentioned, the Pistons have had a long history of devastating injuries in the Stan Van Gundy era.
One injury I didn’t list above was Avery Bradley’s groin, which has kept him in and out of the lineup over the last several weeks.
Oh, and did I mention Stanley Johnson, who is in the exact same situation as Bradley in terms of being in and out of the lineup due to injury?
Sports=Injuries, but the number of injuries the Pistons have sustained have been really tough. From an athletic training perspective, the number of minor injuries that have become more severe and kept players in and out of the lineup has been perplexing to say the least.

For Leuer, this is a devastating injury that he should be able to make a full recovery from. Hopefully he can come back better than ever. Best wishes to him.
