The Detroit Pistons have tanked in the standings. Unfortunately for Andre Drummond, the Pistons’ lack of success appears to have trickled down to his own individual success. Drummond, despite a career season, has not been voted onto the Eastern Conference All-Star roster.

The Detroit Pistons are a disappointment, I don’t think there’s much arguing that.

However, Andre Drummond has had a career season, improving in virtually every area.

Yet, he finds himself on the outside looking in.

Take a look at the players voted in as all-star reserves in the Eastern Conference:

Whether you agree with the voting or not, there is a common theme among the players who got in as reserves–winning.

Not one of the Eastern Conference reserves are on a team that is outside the playoff standings, with the exception of Kristaps Porzingis.

From that perspective, it’s really easy to deduct why Drummond, who at worst is a close consideration to some of the other players who made the team, did not receive a spot.

Personally, I think Drummond deserves a spot on the roster.

I get that the Pistons are out of the playoffs, but in my opinion, he’s been one of the better players in the NBA this season.

Some will argue that Drummond is no longer a liability at the free throw line and that he’s improved so much that he deserves to be a participant in the game.

I disagree with that.

Drummond’s presence, or lack thereof, in the all-star game, should be based singularly on his performance in contrast to the individuals who made the team.

Looking at Drummond strictly in those terms, that is, how he has performed this season on both sides of the ball and the impact he has had on his team, against the players on the all-star team, I believe an argument could have been made for Drummond over Kevin Love.

Arguments could be made for Drummond over other players, but that seems to be the most clear-cut argument to me.
