The Detroit Pistons finished last week as winners of all three of its games. While its true the Pistons are undefeated since trading for Blake Griffin, the real key for the Pistons over the last few games has been Andre Drummond, who has been named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week.
The Detroit Pistons are undefeated in the Blake Griffin era. (Even if Griffin has only played in two of the three Pistons’ wins).
But it’s Andre Drummond who has been named Eastern Conference Player of the Week, and he has been very deserving of the honor.
Give credit where credit is due. Drummond, as noted by the tweet above, averaged 19.3 points, 19.0 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 3.3 steals, and 2.7 blocks while he lead the team to three straight victories.
While Griffin’s presence in Detroit has been huge, and may even be a factor in Drummond’s increased production, the fact of the matter is Drummond has just taken his game to another level since January, where he averaged more points, assists, steals, and blocks than in any other month prior.
Drummond’s elevated play, paired with Griffin’s abilities have got to have fans excited about the Pistons’ future.
While it’s true that the Pistons still do not have enough pieces to seriously compete just yet, Drummond’s ascension in play, if it holds, should have the Pistons at the very least firmly in the playoff hunt for the rest of the season.
Even more exciting is what the Pistons might be capable of at full strength, if Reggie Jackson can come back healthy.
Next: What does Blake Griffin bring to the Pistons?
Here’s to hoping Drummond’s recent play is a sign of things to come. When Drummond is impacting the game the way he is on both ends of the floor recently, the Pistons are dangerous.
