Would You Rather: Ex-Detroit Pistons Edition
By Curtis Brown
Point Guard: Reggie Jackson versus Spencer Dinwiddie
Current Pistons point guard: Reggie Jackson
I chose Jackson here over Ish Smith, even though Smith is the one in that role right now. Even though he is injured, there are only a handful of point guards in the league that I would want ahead of him. That handful gets a while lot bigger if I were thinking about Smith.
In 33 games this season Jackson has averaged 14.6 points, 5.5 assists, 2.8 rebounds, and 0.6 steals. He has averaged 27.1 minutes per game and 44.6 percent from the field.
Ex-Pistons point guard: Spencer Dinwiddie
When Spencer Dinwiddie was in Detroit, he was nothing more than an intriguing, but below average back-up point guard. However, he has come into his own starting for the Brooklyn Nets.
In 62 games this season Dinwiddie has average 13.3 points, 6.8 assists, 3.4 rebounds, and 0.8 steals. He has averaged 29.2 minutes per game and 38.8 percent from the field.
Honorable mention: D.J. Augustin shooting 42.5 percent on threes for the Orlando Magic
Not so honorable mention: Jose Calderon averaging less than four points and less than two assists in 15 minutes per game for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
So, would you rather have Jackson or Dinwiddie?
This is a tough decision. Both of their per game stats this year as pretty even. Jackson has been scoring more, and shooting a bit better than Dinwiddie so far this season.
Dinwiddie is younger, and seems to be less prone to injury than Jackson. He also won the Skills Challenge at all star weekend this year. But, and this could be homerism speaking here, Jackson just looks better on the court.
I would rather have Reggie Jackson.
