Detroit Pistons take note of Utah Jazz defense
By Ash Vanclay
The Detroit Pistons travelled to Salt Lake City to take on the Utah Jazz to start their 6 game West Coast road trip, and it got off to a rough start as they were comprehensively beaten 110-79.
The Utah Jazz came out of the gates hot and never cooled. They finished the first quarter 14 of 18 from the field for 42 points! While our Detroit Pistons only managed a meagre 21 points. The Utah Jazz had a stretch beginning with 5:44 left in the first quarter in which they didn’t miss a single shot for the next 7 minutes.
The Detroit Pistons just could not figure out how to get good looks at the basket against a suffocating Utah Jazz defence, with their highest scoring quarter being the first of the game. The Detroit Pistons finished the game shooting 37.5 percent from the field and 20 percent from three, while the Utah Jazz managed 55.3 percent from the field and 38.2 percent from three.
The lone bright spots for the Detroit Pistons were Luke Kennard and Andre Drummond. Luke Kennard finished with 18 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1 steal in what would have to be a season high 36 minutes. Not only did Luke Kennard lead the team in points, but he also outplayed Donovan Mitchell who many fans thought we should have drafted.
While Andre Drummond finished with 13 points, 11 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal in only 23 minutes mainly due to foul trouble. He looked like our best player whenever he was on the floor and looked active.
Team Grade:
Everyone except Luke Kennard and Andre Drummond: F
Luke Kennard and Andre Drummond: D
The Detroit Pistons will look to restore winning ways when they head to Denver to take on the Nuggets (37-30) on Thursday.
