What would Detroit Pistons do with a top-3 pick?
The Detroit Pistons have only a 2.5% chance of keeping its first round pick, and just a .7% chance of the top overall pick. If the Pistons were to get a top pick, what direction would the team go?
The Detroit Pistons have only a 2.5% chance of landing a top-three pick in next month’s lottery drawing, which is scheduled for May 15th.
With the lottery under a month away I thought it a good time to go ahead and dream, you know, while we still can.
It’s true the Pistons have just a 2.5% chance at a top-three pick, and less than a one percent chance at the top overall pick, but there is still a chance, so we can’t rule out that possibility yet.
If the Pistons were to land a top-three pick in next month’s lottery, the team would likely be choosing from one of the following three players:
1. Deandre Ayton, C, Arizona
2. Luca Doncic, G/F, Real Madrid
3. Jaren Jackson Jr., PF/C, Michigan State
I’m going to be honest with you all, at this stage I have not had a chance to thoroughly analyze the draft. (It’s going to be even more difficult to motivate myself to do so if the Pistons are without its first round pick).
While I’m not as polished as others in the draft community at this point in time, I would take Luca Doncic over any player in the draft this year.
It just so happens that Luca also fills a position of need as he can play point guard, or any of the other wing positions.
Luca is arguably the best European player ever, and he also played in one of the most competitive leagues in the world. I think a smart and skillful player like Donca would have a seamless transition to the NBA and I also think he’d be a good fit with Stan Van Gundy, should he be retained.
After Donca, I would pick Ayton from Arizona, who could also turn out to be the best player in the draft.
That leaves Jackson as the last of the three, though he’s hardly a consultation prize.
The irony about this draft is the top players on the board, with the exception of Doncic, are front court players, where the Pistons need the least help.
Next: Luke Kennard is no Donovan Mitchell, but he is still really good
That’s what I would do, if I were the Pistons’ general manager. What would you do?
