The Detroit Pistons have a big decision to make regarding incumbent president of basketball operations and head coach Stan Van Gundy. Owner Tom Gores was reportedly scheduled to sit down with Van Gundy sometime this week. It looks like that meeting could be happening as soon as tonight.

The Detroit Pistons have been mulling over what to do with Stan Van Gundy, as team owner Tom Gores has not committed to Stan Van Gundy, who is is under contract for one more season.

We knew the two sides would meet this week, but it looks like the meeting will take place as soon as tonight.

The timing of this meeting may or may not have significance.

On the surface, the two sides were expected to meet this week.

Tonight, is a day in this week, so nothing shocking.

On the other hand, none of the coaching vacancies have been filled yet, and the Pistons may want to ensure they get a shot at the top candidates to fill their vacancy, should Van Gundy be terminated.

Even more, it is reported that the most pressing issue for Gores is the head coach position.

That being said, it doesn’t sound like Tom Gores will be making an overnight decision.

The fact that this meeting, and subsequent conversations, will be taking place in “series” says it all.

I don’t have any insider information, but the more I hear about this situation, the more doubtful I am about Stan Van Gundy returning in any capacity.

I think the only thing making this decision more difficult for Gores is his strong relationship with Van Gundy, which is reportedly strong.

I’ve really went back and forth on what I think is the right direction for the Pistons, but the more I think about Van Gundy returning, the more I feel like the Pistons are just extending the inevitable one more season.

Next: Do Detroit Pistons have the ammunition to land a top pick?

Still, we will have to wait and see what happens to Van Gundy, and who knows, if he does return, maybe next season will finally be the season we’ve been waiting for.
