Who would you like to see as next Detroit Pistons coach?

The Detroit Pistons have not commented one way or another on what it intends to do with Stan Van Gundy, but if Van Gundy is not retained next season, who would you want to see as the team’s next head coach?

The Detroit Pistons have not made a decision on Stan Van Gundy, though that discussion, and perhaps decision, will reportedly take place sometime this week.

If the Pistons elect to fire Van Gundy, who would you like to see replace him?

My take?

I have two preferences, in the following order:

1. Jay Wright
2. David Fizdale

Jay Wright is fresh off of his second national championship in three years, and has build one of the most impressive programs in the nation from the ground up. He seems to get the most out of his players, he obviously knows his X’s and O’s, and he is a terrific leader of men–seriously, read this article about him.

It is for these reasons that I would be absolutely ecstatic if Wright were to replace Van Gundy, in this hypothetical scenario.

Unfortunately, this is probably a pipe dream. Wright has said he is intrigued by the NBA, but that he’s not willing to give up what he has at Villanova.

Fizdale brings many of the same things, only he’s been a head coach before in the NBA, which some people may prefer.

I actually would prefer a coach who has been involved and even held the role of head coach in the NBA, but Wright gets the edge because I think the Pistons would have a higher ceiling under his tenure, than if coached by anyone else. (Though the team may have a lower floor too).

That’s my take, what’s yours? Who would you like to see as the Pistons next head coach?
