A week since it was learned Stan Van Gundy and Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores would meet has yielded no new information.

On April 23, Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press reported that president of basketball operations/head coach Stan Van Gundy and owner Tom Gores would hold a series of meetings to discuss the direction of the Detroit Pistons.

Ellis also said at the time that Gores and Van Gundy would have a decision sometime later in the week.

Now seven days later, however, there is nothing new on the Van Gundy front, either whether SVG will be back for a fifth season with the Pistons or if the club would be moving forward without the outspoken coach.

There seems to be a lack of urgency for Gores and the Pistons. There could be many reasons for this.

Gores has yet to make a decision on whether he wants to keep SVG in his combined coaching and front office role. This a hard decision because SVG was not given an opportunity to use the trio of Andre Drummond, Blake Griffin and Reggie Jackson.

However, with six teams already interviewing available coachiong candidates, one would think this decision would have/should have been made already.

This leads me to believe that Stan Van Gundy will keep his coaching position.

However, the decision on SVG’s future as president of basketball operations might be the reason for the lack of urgency. There is still more than a month to deal with the draft, free agency and trading. So that means Gores could be stalling before he decides on that front office job.

Gores and Van Gundy could also be discussing whether they want to move on from some of some key players on the roster. This is another difficult decision which could be delaying the outcome of the meetings.

Ultimately I believe the Pistons will have a change of direction in some way. Gores and Van Gundy would not be discussing in the meetings if they were not going to change the team’s direction moving forward.
