The Detroit Pistons part ways with head coach and President of basketball operations Stan Van Gundy after a series of meetings.

News broke two weeks ago that Stan Van Gundy and Tom Gores would meet up to discuss the future of the Detroit Pistons. Last week it was reported that Gores wanted to keep Van Gundy with the team but with some changes in the front office.

It was released today by Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press that the Pistons have moved on from Van Gundy.

This news comes as no surprise.  Last week it was reported that Tom Gores wanted to keep Van Gundy but replace General Manager Jeff Bower.

Van Gundy would continue to resist which probably forced the team to part ways with him.

Many believed that Van Gundy would be allowed to coach his final season with Detroit with the Blake Griffin trade.

It was also reported that the team is expected to have an immediate search to fill both coaching and President roles. Both roles will be separate from each other.

Stan Van Gundy was the head coach and President of the team for four seasons. Things didn’t look good for him after a couple of draft blunders and handing out terrible contracts.

One playoff appearance in 4 seasons sealed the deal. Van Gundy was 152-176 as the man in charge of the Pistons.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, Brent Barry is strongly considered for a role in the team’s front office.

Brent Barry was Arn Tellem’s client back when he was a player. Many people expected Tellem to have a say in the team’s future. It was reported midway through the season that he would revamp the front office.

According to Vincent Goodwill of NBC Sports Chicago, BJ Armstrong is a name to watch for.
