The Detroit Pistons parted ways with Stan Van Gundy. It seems as though no one is safe from being moved on this current roster now.

Stan Van Gundy is out as head coach and President of basketball operations for the Detroit Pistons.

Owner Tom Gores has a hefty pill to swallow. He now needs a general manager and head coach late in the process. Teams have already hired coaches and begun the process of preparing for next season.

It doesn’t make sense that Gores was dragging his heels over the past week to make this decision. I guess it doesn’t matter much considering the Pistons don’t have many moves they can make.

They don’t have any money to spend and won’t have a first round selection in this year’s draft.

Moving on from Van Gundy gives me a sense that Gores wants one thing. A change in direction. A change in building mentality.

Van Gundy was reportedly resistant to any kind of change with the current system. This news came in last week as Gores was meeting with him about the future of the team.

That means he was content with trying to compete again next year with a roster that isn’t capable of making a deep playoff run.

This gives me the impression that Gores is finally realizing the inevitable with this change in direction.  It’s time to move on from some of the players on this team next.

Sine they can’t sign any big name free agents to really improve the current roster, this would be there only move if they choose to do anything.

Players that could be moved

With this change in direction, I don’t think anyone is safe on this current roster. Yes, that even means the players with ugly contracts. New management is likely going to want to get back in the first round of the draft in some way with this change in direction. That’s how you rebuild.

Four players should keep a close eye on moves that this team makes after acquiring a new GM and head coach: Blake Griffin, Andre Drummond, Reggie Jackson, and Stanley Johnson.

Griffin will get the biggest return. A team that is already contending and looking to add another piece to their puzzle would be happy to have Griffin.

I think the Pistons could get a late first-round pick with Griffin’s value and perhaps some young talent to bring in for development.

Drummond would also net a decent-sized return. The Pistons could get a package deal for a guy like Drummond who continues to improve his game. Perhaps a pick and some other pieces.

Jackson is an interesting situation. He’s a good starting point guard when he’s healthy. The key word is healthy.

Johnson would likely be part of a package deal with one of the three players listed above.

Nobody should be safe from getting moved especially if it’s for the right price.

Pistons fans, it’s time for you to embrace this new direction as well. If you’re not competing, you should be rebuilding.

I think that’s the right thing to do. Sitting in idle for the last two years has been dreadful.

It’s time for the Detroit Pistons to make some serious changes.
