The Detroit Pistons will be looking for young talent in the second round of the 2018 draft. Could that be a potential backup point guard?

The Detroit Pistons should remember the name Devonte Graham as we are less than a month away from the 2018 NBA draft.

After earning first team All-American, Graham is one of the most experienced college players in the draft. He graduated from Kansas University who is coached by longtime  head coach and Naismith Hall of Famer Bill Self.

Graham is an offensive minded play-maker. He can use the pick and roll while also catching and shooting efficiently. In three out of four years in college he shot above 40 percent from three. His career stats at Kansas are 17.3 ppg, 4.0 rpg, and 7.2 apg according to the YouTube video down below.

The assist per game numbers do stand out as Detroit needs a pass first point guard but also one that isn’t afraid to score as well.

The main concerns with Graham is his size and age. He is 6’2” and about 185lbs which in today’s NBA is undersized.

He also just turned 23 in February making him one of the older potential draft picks in this year’s draft. Graham also does not have a lot of time for error or failure as his peak will come sooner than most players.

Detroit Pistons in need of another point guard

If Graham is on the board at pick 42 the Pistons should draft him because even with current point guards Reggie Jackson and Ish Smith they are both getting older and are both injury prone.

Although the Pistons do have Kay Felder a two-way contract player from Oakland University, there is still speculation regarding how his game will translate to the NBA as he is also undersized for a point guard.

The Pistons should look to add a young point guard to their roster through the draft. They could benefit from it when injuries arise or end of the season and Ish Smith’s contract is expired.
