With only one pick in the 2018 NBA draft, the Detroit Pistons need to need to capitalize on their second-round pick. Could they be looking to draft a small forward?

The Detroit Pistons should remember the name Kenrich Williams as it is now the month of the draft. He has the potential to be a key contributor off of the bench for the Pistons next season.

Kenrich Williams is an interesting prospect coming out of TCU. He is an average sized small forward at 6 feet 7 inches and 210lbs. In his senior season at TCU he averaged 13.2 PPG, 9.3 RPG, 3.9 APG, shot 47.7 percent from the field and just under 40 percent from three.

From seeing these numbers and the way he plays, he is an athletic 3 or a stretch 4. He can effectively guard three positions and in his senior season he averaged almost two steals a game.

Williams is very comparable to James Ennis III. Ennis’s contract has come to an end and the Pistons should not look to resign him. The TCU small forward could be Ennis’s replacement, assuming Johnson and Bullock play the same minutes they did this last season.

The main concerns with Williams are his age, overall potential, and free-throw percentage. He is 23 years old already and will turn 24 about halfway through the season. Williams showed a lot of upside at TCU, but it is uncertain how that will translate into the NBA. While at TCU he never shot above 70 percent from the free-throw line.

This may turn into the Pistons trading a player or future pick for a later pick in the second round to take Kenrich if he is still on the board after they pick at No. 42. According to NBAdraft.net, Williams is projected to go 54th overall to the Dallas Mavericks.
