The Detroit Pistons are currently looking for their next head coach. A lot of names have been tossed around. Who do you want them to hire?

There has been an abundance of names tossed around concerning the vacancy at head coach for the Detroit Pistons. Here is the current list that owner Tom Gores has showed interest in:

  • Dwane Casey

  • John Beilein

  • Jason Kidd

  • Jay Larranaga

  • Kenny Smith

  • Juwan Howard

  • Ime Udoka

A lot unknown with the future of the Detroit Pistons

Did we miss anyone? Hopefully not. As you can see, there’s a long list of people ranging from no experience as a head coach to a lot of experience.

From college to the NBA, the Pistons are giving a long look before they put their chips in on their next coach. It’s easy to understand why.

Gores has expressed that he wants his team to win now. They have pieces on their roster to win now. Will they ultimately decide to go in that direction?

Who knows. The Pistons are currently without a head coach, a general manager, and a President of basketball operations. Depending on the moves that are made, the organization could go in a completely different direction.

The most qualified for the job

Out of the list above, it’s quite obvious who the most qualified coach would be. It’s ex-Toronto head coach Dwane Casey.

He has the most head coaching experience in the NBA out of all of the candidates here. He was part of an overhaul with Toronto, completely changing the culture of an organization that was failing.

He was a big reason for the development of DeMar DeRozan. He’s now a superstar in the league.

Casey was let go after the team was unable to get past Cleveland and reach the finals for a third consecutive season. It’s amazing. The team won 59 games in his final season as head coach but was still let go.

Intriguing candidate

John Beilein is a really interesting name in the group of candidates above. He’s been the head coach at the University of Michigan since 2007. He’s built a Michigan program that is now competitive on a yearly basis.

This program was in shambles before he took over. He’s produced a lot of NBA talent in the process. Trey Burke, Tim Hardaway Jr., and Nik Stauskus are a few to mention.

Beilein runs an offense very similar to what you see in the NBA which favors his coaching ability.

He’s never coached in the NBA so that might be an issue if he were hired for the job.

Leaving it up to the fans
