News broke Monday night that the Detroit Pistons have intensified their interest in both Dwane Casey and John Beilein. The two head coaching candidates have already interviewed for the position once before.
The Detroit Pistons are interested in having “further conversations” with head coaching candidates Dwane Casey and John Beilein, according to a report from Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Both Casey and Beilein have already interviewed for the position as recently as last week. Casey met with the organization last Thursday night, as did Beilein the following day. The Pistons fired president and head coach Stan Van Gundy after four seasons on May 7.
Casey spent seven seasons as the head coach of the Toronto Raptors, before being let go back in May. Toronto posted a 320-238 record during his tenure. This included five straight playoff appearances, and a franchise record 59 wins in 2017-18.
Beilein has led the Michigan Wolverines for the last 11 seasons. Under his watch, Michigan has made the NCAA Tournament eight times, including two appearances in the National Championship Game (2013 and 2018). His overall record with the maize and blue is 248-143.
Detroit’s search for a new head coach has included other names such as Kenny Smith, Juwan Howard, and Jason Kidd.
The Pistons are also in the market for a new president and general manager. Detroit parted ways with Jeff Bower after four seasons on Friday.
