John Beilein decides to stay at Michigan following a meeting between Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores and Dwane Casey. What does this mean?

According to reports, John Beilein has decided to stay in Ann Arbor and not continue pursuing the head coaching job for the Detroit Pistons.

He’s built an established program that has seen two final four runs in the past five seasons. Why would he leave?

Adrian Wojnarowski reports that this decision followed the event of Dwane Casey meeting with Pistons owner Tom Gores this week.

What does this mean for the Detroit Pistons?

As time goes forward, you get the feeling that it’s looking more and more like Casey is going to be the next head coach for the Pistons.

Remember, Gores recently hired Ed Stefanski to be his direct assistant. Stefanski and Casey already have an established relationship from working together in the past.

Beilein backing out of the coaching search doesn’t really affect the Pistons one way or another. He’s shown he can win at the college level. Casey has the actual NBA experience that the team is most likely looking for.

Beilein would’ve been a roll of the dice as a head coach. Then again, it would be the same way with Casey. He’s shown that he can win in the regular season with the necessary tools.

The Raptors won 59 games this past season under Casey. His teams always derailed in the postseason, however.

Gores and Stefanski seem close to bringing in Detroit’s next head coach. Will it be Casey?
