Welcome back to GM Ku! A segment on PistonPowered where I, Ku Khahil, step into the role of President of Basketball Operations/General Manager of the Detroit Pistons.
In this series of episodes, the task is to build the best team possible WITHOUT trading one of the big three (Andre Drummond, Blake Griffin, Reggie Jackson). There will be other series in which GM Ku experiments trading away each player of the big three, but that’s for another time.
It did not go very well in the first episode, however.
In the season 2018-19, GM Ku led the Pistons to a 33-49 record and missed the playoffs. Stan Van Gundy was caught ( during this season) running a “post-centric” offense around Drummond and Griffin.
A “post-centric” offense with Drummond.
Yeah…it wasn’t a very good season.
If you’re an Oklahoma City Thunder fan, you’ll be happy to learn that Carmelo Anthony won Sixth Man Of The Year during the first episode. Maybe that’s foreshadowing the future?
Nah.
Anyways, heading into year two, GM Ku hopes to get the Pistons back on track for the 2019-20 season while keeping the core together.
Make sure to comment down below how you feel GM Ku did in his second season with the team, and what decisions you would’ve done differently. You can also ask for his job to be taken away, and ask him, “What were you thinking?”
I’m pretty sure he reads these comments and he may respond.
