News broke on Wednesday afternoon that the Detroit Pistons have offered a front-office role to Malik Rose. The 43-year-old was recently named the 2018 G League Basketball Executive of the Year. Rose also played 13 seasons in the NBA.

The Detroit Pistons have offered a front-office role to Erie BayHawks general manager Malik Rose, according to a report from Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports.

Rose was recently named the 2018 G League Basketball Executive of the Year. Erie is the G League affiliate for the Atlanta Hawks. He also spent 13 seasons as a player in the NBA.

Charania also reports that both sides are currently working towards a deal.

Vince Ellis of the Detroit Free Press, who has mentioned Rose as a potential candidate in the past, tweeted that fans should keep their eyes on Brent Barry as well.

The Pistons’ interest in Rose makes sense. He is a young executive who has quickly risen through the ranks.

Atlanta hired him as general manager of basketball operations back in August 2015. Rose was then promoted to general manager of the BayHawks in the spring of 2017.

As noted above, he was named Executive of the Year in his first season at the helm. The next step logically would be a front-office gig with an NBA team.

The news comes just hours before the Pistons are set to introduce Dwane Casey as head coach. Up to this point, Casey and senior consultant Ed Stefanski remain the only two hires of the post-Stan Van Gundy era.

Should the Pistons hire Rose, it would bring a younger voice into a veteran front office. Casey and Stefanski are in their sixties. Rose is just 43. That’s a healthy dynamic to have when it comes to decision-making.
