The wait is over, as the Detroit Pistons selected who they think will be a great fit for their team and the community. Detroit chose Bruce Brown with the 42nd pick in the 2018 NBA draft.

Bruce Brown is a 6-foot-5-inch combo guard out of Miami University (FL). He showed his true talent and had a great freshmen season. But he did have a down year last season as a sophomore. Brown’s 3-point percentage down from 34.7 percent as a freshmen year to 26.7 percent as a sophomore. His free-throw percentage dropped as well, from 74.4 percent to 62.9 percent.

Brown’s strengths include his athleticism, rebounding, passing ability, and physical strength. He also bench pressed 225 pounds for 17 reps at the NBA combine. That was the most out of any guard who participated in the event.

Brown has been compared to Lance Stephenson at the NBA level, as well as recent draftee Sindarius Thornwell.

There are issues with his shooting efficiency from beyond the arc and at the free-throw line. He also struggled when it came to finishing at the rim last year, posting just 58.5 percent in that category.

What can Brown bring to the Piston’s organization?

Brown can bring a hard work ethic, athleticism, defensive IQ, and play-making ability. The Pistons needed a wing player that can defend multiple positions and one that can be a play-maker on the court. You may ask, isn’t that Stanley Johnson? Time will tell whether Johnson and Brown can develop their games to fit the new Pistons system.

Detroit also traded two future second-round picks to Philadelphia for the draft rights of Khyri Thomas. Thomas is a 6-foot-3-inch, 210-pound shooting guard from Creighton University. He is a two-time Big East Defensive Player of the Year, and has been named to the All-Big East Second Team.
