PistonPowered contributor Andrew Brewster recently sat down with some fellow writers in a round table discussion. Their topic? Expectations for the Detroit Pistons under Dwane Casey.

On Monday, June 11, it was revealed that the Detroit Pistons had hired former Toronto Raptors coach Dwane Casey. Casey spent seven seasons in Toronto, winning Coach of the Year honors on June 25 for his efforts in the 2017-18 season.

Casey becomes one of the rare examples of coaches that have been fired prior to winning the award. His tenure will always be tarnished by Toronto’s inability to make it past LeBron James in a playoff series. Most recently, the Raptors were swept out of the playoffs by a less-than-stellar Cavaliers team.

Reactions from Pistons fans regarding the hire seem to be covering the gambit. For a fan base thirsty for the playoffs, I see a lot of fans that are excited with the arrival Casey. The Pistons roster is seemingly ready for a playoff berth, and Casey’s resume indicates he should be the guy for the job.

However, some fans still have plenty of valid questions. Last season, Casey was highly praised for the changes the team made to their offense. They moved from a star-centric, isolation-heavy offense to a more egalitarian, movement-heavy system.

This was great, although there are mutterings that these changes were championed by now Toronto head coach Nick Nurse. Aside from this, there is still one big question.
