Three ways Detroit Pistons fans can get through the month of August
2. Watch every shot the Pistons took last year*
I included an asterisk because that would be an insane undertaking. The Detroit Pistons launched a total of 7,129 field-goal attempts (FGAs) last season. But if you’re game, it’s actually possible to re-watch every single one.
NBA.com/Stats provides an incredible tool called “Shotchart Search” on its homepage (you have to scroll down a bit). Just enter the name of a player, and you’ll be taken to a video log that includes every FGA that individual took in 2017-18.
Here’s the link for Andre Drummond. In the top-left corner is a video showing how a specific FGA was generated, as well as the eventual shot itself. Below is an example of what each clip looks like.
Underneath the video is a list (which is 18 pages long for Drummond) that sorts every FGA in chronological order. The play type, shot distance, time remaining, and end result are included as well.
Users can click on the corresponding row to view whichever shot they desire. The video then automatically begins playing in the top-left corner.
There is also a variety of shot charts for the selected player in the top-right corner. Fans can see their shooting percentages versus the league average, overall frequency, and a handful of other metrics.
