The Detroit Pistons come back with a re-vamped front office and a new coaching staff. They also bring back a healthy team. Will it result in more wins?

Last season, the Detroit Pistons finished 39-43 and missed the playoffs for the second straight year. The year before that they went 37-45.

The trend among those two seasons were injuries affecting the team’s performance on the court. Starting point guard Reggie Jackson missed a large chunk of games in both of those seasons.

It’s no coincidence they missed the postseason without their starting point guard in the lineup. The NBA is a point guard-driven league.

Many popular sports media sites have have come out with win projections throughout the summer. It’s even more common now that schedules have been released.

Many of them show zero confidence in the Detroit Pistons despite all of the changes. Let’s take a look at where some well-known brands have the Pistons at in the upcoming season.

Bleacher Report has Pistons worse off than last season

The well-known sports website did a prediction for each NBA team after the release of all the regular season schedules. Zach Buckley had this to say about the Detroit Pistons:

"This franchise has hitched its future to the Blake Griffin–Andre Drummond-Reggie Jackson trio. The odds of this group succeeding aren’t nearly high enough to outweigh the obvious risks."

Buckley predicts that the Pistons will finish with a 37-45 record next season. A lot of that stems from what could potentially happen to the foundation of the team.

It’s an obvious and understandable concern. A lot of fans have their fair share of concerns about this team as well.

CBS Sports predicts more wins than last season

This one is intriguing. Jack Maloney did win projections on each team in the NBA on June 20 and then another one on July 20 of this year.

On June 20, Maloney predicted that the Detroit Pistons would win 42 games next season. On July 20, he predicted they would win 41. He even featured seeds for the playoffs and had Detroit at the five seed.

It doesn’t seem right that a team with 42 wins would be the five seed in the eastern conference playoffs. the Indiana Pacers were the five seed last season and had 48 wins.

Maloney has the Washington Wizards at 37 wins and as the eight seed. They were the eight seed last season and had 43 wins. These low numbers could be a result of the east being weak with LeBron James going west to the Los Angeles Lakers.
