#8 Glenn Robinson III

A lot of fans were excited by the addition of Glenn Robinson III over the summer.

As a Michigan alumnus, he will almost certainly be a fan favorite for the Pistons this season. His two-year, $8.3 million contract could end up being a huge value, as he has the size to theoretically become a solid defender on the wing.

As far as his offense goes, he should be the most effective option at the small forward position. He’s only had one season where he put up a high-volume of shots, but in that season he was able to put up a stellar 39 percent 3-point shooting percentage on roughly two attempts per game.

While his numbers are encouraging, he hasn’t put up enough volume of shots over his career to say definitively that he will be the starting small forward.

A lot of Pistons fans have been debating between him and Stanley Johnson all summer, and that battle likely won’t be decided until the first game, if even then.

For what it’s worth, I slightly favor Stanley Johnson, which I’ll get to more later.

I do think Robinson has a high offensive ceiling, and, in theory, he should have the physical attributes to play solid wing defense.

However, he is coming off an ankle injury, and his defensive execution after returning last season left much to be desired. It’ll be an interesting battle to monitor through the preseason.
