Why the Detroit Pistons are the city’s best hope for a playoff run
Bench talent
The bench unit, on paper, appears talented enough to provide some reliable scoring for the Detroit Pistons.
You have Luke Kennard, who showed his ability to knock down the open shot and crest off the dribble and shoot. There’s a cold-blooded shooter in Langston Galloway, who is never shy to take a shot and has a quick trigger.
Now with Glenn Robinson III (it’s still up in he air as to whether he or Stanley Johnson will come off the bench) the Pistons have a wing that can defend and shoot, which spreads the floor.
Johnson brings a defense prowess to the game, and fans are hopeful that Casey can unlock the door to his game we haven’t seen yet.
Zaza Pachulia gives Detroit an experienced big that can spell Drummond, play solid defense, score in the post (if need be), and rebound. Ish Smith will continue to push the ball in the open floor, catch defenses off guard, penetrate inside, and will have plenty of shooters to spread the ball around him.
The Pistons have the makings of a second unit that can help maintain the lead, or cut into a deficit if the starters are struggling.
