The Detroit Pistons have lost two key players in their back court in the last couple of games. Is it time to give Khyri Thomas a shot?
The Detroit Pistons have had two injuries hit their back court in the last two games. Ish Smith left last night’s game and Reggie Bullock didn’t return on Monday’s game against the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Luckily for the Pistons, Luke Kennard just returned from an injury he suffered back in October. However, it’s going to be a while before he gets comfortable and adjusts back to the speed of the game at the NBA level.
Langston Galloway started in last night’s game against the Bucks. His production off the bench lately has been fantastic but struggled with the starting unit.
He scored just five points in 23 minutes of action. Galloway finished with a -25 in the plus/minus column. That was the worst on the team.
Bruce Brown is an above average defender and that’s been a big reason why he’s getting minutes. His offensive game is still not quite there yet.
Khyri Thomas is an option as shooting guard. He’s not really received an opportunity yet with the Detroit Pistons.
He definitely made the most of his time with the Grand Rapids Drive. In seven games, Thomas was averaging nearly 20 points a game. He was shooting 50 percent from the field and 43 percent from the three-point line.
To be fair, that’s not exactly against the cream of the crop in regards to competition.
Should Khyri Thomas get playing time with the Detroit Pistons?
Here’s a better question: Why shouldn’t he get playing time?
The answer is a simple yes. The Pistons are struggling to shoot the basketball from outside. Thomas proved in Grand Rapids that he could do just that.
He can do more than just shoot the ball as well. While in college, Thomas was the defensive player of the year in the Big East conference at Creighton.
He’s a defensive-minded guard that can limit damage from the perimeter and can also shoot the ball from outside.
No one else is really proving themselves at the shooting guard position on this team right now. Why not give Khryi Thomas a shot?
The Detroit Pistons might as well test out what they have.
