The Detroit Pistons traded away Reggie Bullock and Stanley Johnson for two young prospects, and are close to signing Wayne Ellington.

The Detroit Pistons were very active at the trade deadline.

They traded away two of their small forwards in Reggie Bullock and Stanley Johnson. Johnson wasn’t working out and needed a change of scenery, but Bullock was the team’s best shooter.

This had many fans thinking they were just selling their assets and giving up on this season; with the mindset of looking toward this summer and after.

By trading those two, the Pistons cleared cap space and gave themselves flexibility moving forward to build a team around Blake Griffin and Andre Drummond. The team also received Thon Maker, Svi Mykhailiuk, and a second round pick.

Maker is a 21 year old big man, who fell out of favor over in Milwaukee. The potential is there for the 7’1″ South Sudanese Australian, but is considered a project currently.

Mykhailiuk (I’m never gonna learn how to spell his last name) is a 6’8″ rookie, who projects to be a knockdown shooter. His form is smooth, and has sneaky athleticism; but, like Maker, also should be considered a project at this point in time.

Making these moves most likely made the team worse at this point in time, but once again, gave this team a better outlook on the future.

That is until the Detroit Pistons made a move in the buyout market.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski (can I just say Woj and stop spelling his whole name out?), the Pistons are nearing a deal with sharpshooter Wayne Ellington once he clears waivers.

Ellington is a career 38 percent three point shooter, who is shooting 37 percent this year on 6.2 attempts per game.

Did these moves help the Detroit Pistons? Is Ed Stefanski giving up on this season, and focusing strictly on the future?
