Langston Galloway was shooting so bad for the Detroit Pistons, fans were asking to see Khyri Thomas. Dwane Casey stayed course, and it has paid off.

The Detroit Pistons have been searching all year to get some shooting from their wing positions. Forwards Stanley Johnson and Glenn Robinson III didn’t exactly cut it, which ended up with one of them getting traded and the other riding the bench.

This wasn’t as surprising, as Johnson was never a good shooter and Robinson had a very low sample size to be basing an opinion off of.

However, the Pistons could not have seen Langston Galloway struggle the way he did.

Galloway is in the NBA because he’s known as a long range sniper. He’s a career 36 percent three point shooter, and the year before joining the Pistons (2016-17) he shot 39 percent.

However, we haven’t seen his shooting reach those heights since joining the team. In his first year with the Detroit Pistons, Galloway shot only 34 percent from deep. Having such a drop off was not expected by then head coach and President of Basketball operations Stan Van Gundy.

Heading into this season, Galloway was going to have a clean slate with new head coach Dwane Casey. He was going to have his chance to prove last year was just an outlier.

It didn’t start out well for Galloway at all.

Galloway is right up there with JR Smith as some of the most bipolar shooters in NBA history. One game they look like Stephen Curry, and the next game they look like Josh Smith. The inconsistent shooting was more than just inconsistent for Galloway this year; it was just plain out bad.

Galloway through his first 54 games was shooting even worse than he did his first season in Detroit. On 4.7 attempts a game, Galloway was shooting an atrocious 32 percent from beyond the arc.

For a player whose only purpose on the team is to shoot, averaging 21 minutes a game while shooting such an awful percentage was mind boggling.

However, Galloway has turned it around. And it’s one of the top reasons why the Pistons have played so much better as of late.

In his last 12 games, Galloway is shooting 54 percent from beyond the arc on 4.2 attempts. The Detroit Pistons are 8-4 in these games.

Though the Pistons have suffered two awful losses, Galloway’s shooting is a bright spot to take away.

If Galloway can hold off his inevitable winter storm of freezing shooting till next year, the Detroit Pistons should be comfortably in the playoffs.
