D.J. Augustin blocked Detroit Pistons Wayne Ellington layup and got in his face. Ellington went on to score 17 points in the following quarter.

The Detroit Pistons walked into Thursday’s match-up with the Orlando Magic knowing how much stock went into it. Lose, fall behind the Magic in the standings and .5 games away from out the playoffs. Win, you separate yourself from the fight between Orlando, Miami, and Charlotte for the last spot.

The Detroit attitude that rivaled the days of the Goin’ To Work era was exhibited. Thon Maker was hustling, and was all over the place defensively with two blocks in 15 minutes. Andre Drummond opened up the game swatting away a Evan Fournier floater attempt, and ended the first quarter with four blocks. Bruce Brown hit a deep, deep three and immediately started jawing with Jonathon Isaac.

But, without a doubt.

Wayne Ellington was the highlight of the night. And after being in Detroit only a month and a half, he has earned himself some Buffs.

Ellington had a wide open layup on the block and after receiving a pass from Drummond. 6’0″ D.J. Augustin recovered in time to send Ellington’s shot out of bounce, and the two engaged in some trash talk and needed to be separated.

Ellington’s look on his face looked as if he felt disrespected that Augustin would have the nerve to look up at him and talk trash.

Who knew Ellington had this much Detroit in him

Immediately following this altercation, the Pistons in bounded the ball to Ellington for a corner three and he rose up over Augustin and drained it. Ellington turned to Augustin and screamed directly at him, in the most cocky move I’ve ever witnessed him do.

Augustin was so timid that he started begging the ref to call a Technical foul.

Ellington wasn’t done there.

Coming out into the second half, Ellington went on to score 17 points in the third quarter. Bombing threes from everywhere, and making defensive plays that led to an easy layup for him and an alley-oop from Brown to Drummond that had Little Caesers Arena jumping!

Ellington’s third quarter helped the Pistons raise their lead to 23 points and buried the Magic before they even had a chance to blink.

And it all started because of some old fashioned trash talking. Ellington went on a personal mission to hit three, after three, after three over Augustin anytime he had the chance after their encounter.

Ellington ended the night hitting seven three pointers and getting three steals en route to his 25 points on the night. In the biggest game of the Detroit Pistons season, Wayne Ellington showed and showed out…

Detroit style.

Cockiness?  Check.

Results? Check.

Attitude? Check.

Get this man some Buffs.

He sure as hell warrants it.
