The Detroit Pistons Starting Lineup… If they were Rappers
Lets do something fun here! Ever wonder what rappers in the world today are equivalents to the Detroit Pistons starting lineup?
Editors note: This story from March has been updated and to pair with an upcoming story.
Hip-hop and basketball have always had a very tight-knit relationship. Basketball players want to be rappers and rappers wish they were NBA All-Stars.
After LeBron James executive produced “Rap or Go to the League”, the newest album from 2 Chainz, I began thinking… who are the Kendrick Lamar’s of the NBA, or the Kevin Durant’s of hip-hop?
To go even further, I wanted to figure out – Who are the rapper equivalents of the 2018-19 Detroit Pistons?
PG – Reggie Jackson – Big Sean
I’ll be honest, I used to be a huge fan of Sean. When he released his album “Dark Sky Paradise” on Feb. 24, 2015, I considered myself the conductor of the Big Sean hype train. His braggadocios personality, Detroit upbringing, and big name features on his albums gravitated me towards him.
It’s no coincidence that Reggie Jackson was traded to the Pistons only nine days prior.
Reggie Jackson has had an up-and-down career with the Pistons, with the highs being really high, and the lows… well… pretty much at rock bottom. Watching Jackson come back too early from a Grade 3 ankle sprain was painful, and at times very cringe-worthy.
When listening to Big Sean, my reaction is pretty much the same. Let me show you.
“I don’t give a *expletive* about feelings, I ain’t no dentist.”
“My secretary finna be a millionaire, Imma call her military”
“And God blessed me like I got bad allergies”
Big Sean’s collaboration album with Metro Boomin on “Double Or Nothing” was one of the worst albums of 2018. Reggie Jackson? Not a great 2018 either. The loss of his burst made his game tough to watch, and it really hurt the team’s success. It probably got Stan Van Gundy fired.
Hopefully Sean can find himself back on the right track in 2019 like Jackson did.
